Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life
Beck Isle Museum in Pickering contains a large and impressive collection
of items from the Victorian era. There are many pieces of old farming
equipment, workshops and shops.

The Ryedale Folk Museum is arguably the finest open air museum in

North Yorkshire Motor Museum
Just the far side of Pickering is a great little place called Thornton
Dale, where you will find some lovely walks by the beck, and a
collection of vintage vehicles.

Castle Howard
The grandest house in the North of England, and the set of Brideshead Revisited, Castle Howard.
There is parkland, an adventure playground, lakes, a garden centre, gardens and cafe.

Towns and Villages
Goathland - Heartbeat Country
Goathland, otherwise known as Aidensfield in the television series
Heartbeat, is a gem of a place. For the serious walker, there are
some excellent circular walks around the village and to surrounding
beauty spots. For those less inclined to strenuous exercise, relax
with a cuppa, or enjoy the village shops.

Helmsley - Gateway to the moors
Enjoy this attractive North Yorkshire town. Its large market square
makes it a favourite of biker groups, whilst the cobbled streets and
interesting variety of shops offer much to day-trippers. Market day
Friday. Also home to Duncombe Park house and gardens, and Helmsley
Castle.

Malton - Ryedale's main market town
The nearest and largest market town to Slingsby, and the "capital
city" of Ryedale. There is a bus service to Malton, and a train
station. Traditional farmers' market once a month, and Saturday markets
in the town centre.

The North Yorkshire Village of Nunnington
Visit Nunnington, between Slingsby and Helmsley. Nunnington Hall and
gardens (stately home) are open spring - autumn. Further details from
the National Trust.
Also in Nunnington, the famous Nunnington Studios. Restored furniture,
garden items, and many other interesting curiosities for sale.

Rosedale - Beautiful moors village
Beautiful village in the North Yorkshire Moors. A great place for
a walk. Explore the kilns high on the hillsides above the village.

Whitby - Captain Cook Country
This picture-book fishing town needs little introduction. The best
fish and chips around. Fine pubs, interesting shops down quirky cobbled
streets, a ruined abbey... Whitby is home to many festivals throughout

The Arches and the Stables holiday cottages are within sight of the
North Yorkshire Moors. There are some beautiful walks in this area;

This is an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" - best explored
